Course Description
This 2,400-acre resort offers sixty-three holes of challenging golf. The Links Course and the Burnt Pine Course are two championship eighteen hole courses, and the Baytowne Course is made up of three nine hole courses that are played in three eighteen hole combinations. These courses are named Dune, Troon, and Harbor. All five courses have five sets of tees to fit anyone's ability level. The Links Course winds alongside the Choctawhatchee Bay. This is a shotmaker's' course where accuracy is a must. The greens are large and flat, and water hazards come into play at least fourteen times. The Burnt Pine Course also winds alongside the bay, which comes into play several times. This course cuts through the trees, features sloping fairways, and the elevated greens are fast and undulating. The signature hole is #14, a 212-yard, par 3, requiring a shot over marshlands to an island green. This private course is reserved for members and resort guests only. "Golf Digest" rated this as the 3rd "Best New Resort Course" in America for 1995. This course takes it name from its setting. A legend, dating back from the 1860's, has it that a Scottish sea captain trying to out-maneuver a Union naval blockade once buried a chest of gold at the base of a lone pine tree charred by a lightning strike. The treasure was forever lost when a forest fire obscured the captain's landmark amid hundreds of burned trees, leaving him and, after his death, his ghost to search for the buried gold. "Golf Digest" also rated this course 64th in the category of the "Top 75 Upscale Courses" for 1996, and they also ranked it as the 19th "Best in State" course for 1997-98. The Baytowne Courses offer you a variety of play. The Dune/Troon Course is the most challenging combination, featuring trees, sand, and lakes that can alter your shots. The greens are large, and there are many mounds and sand bunkers guarding the fairways. One of the highlights of this course is the gulf views. The Troon/Harbor Course has greens that are sloped from back to front, and the fairways are mostly flat and bordered by mounds. The Harbor/Dune Course is the easiest because of its length and wide open fairways. Walking is permitted on the Links and Burnt Pine courses. Play is limited to registered resort guests. The other tees shown are additional men's tees. To reserve tee times for public play call (850) 267-8211.
