Course Description
This public facility has five outstanding eighteen hole courses. The Black and Blue courses are the most difficult because of the many hills, so you can expect numerous uneven lies. The rough defining the fairways is very deep, and locals say it's a long way from the tees to the greens. "Golf Digest" rated the Black Course as the #1 "Best Public Course" in the state for 1996, and 100th out of "America's 100 Greatest Courses" for 1997-98. In 1998, "GOLF Magazine" rated the Black Course 4th on the list of "Top 100 Courses You Can Play in the U.S." The same publication chose it 51st among the "Top 100 Courses in the U.S." for 1995, and 34th in 1997 and 28th for 1999. In addition, "GOLFWEEK" ranked it 26th in the category of "America's 100 Best Classical Courses" for 1997, 29th for 1998 and 42nd for 1999. The Blue Course is tight on the front nine and open on the back nine. The Green Course is good for intermediate players because it features very small greens. The Yellow Course is the beginner's course because it was built on flat terrain. The Red Course is also good for intermediate golfers. The green fees for the Black Course are higher because it's the facility's signature course. This course will be the site of the 2002 U.S. Open. The "ladies'" tee on the Black Course is played primarily by men and has a men's course rating of 73.1 and a slope rating of 140.
