Course Description
This resort, which was named to "GOLF Magazine's" 1998 list of "Gold Medal Resorts," features two regulation eighteen hole courses. Pete Dye, the designer of these courses, did a great job of preserving the natural beauty of the land and surrounding terrain. The River Course has water hazards (six ponds and a meandering river) coming into play on fourteen holes. The signature hole on the River Course is #9, a 337-yard, par 4, called "Cathedral Spires." This hole was rated by designer Pete Dye as the best hole he ever built. The Meadow Valleys Course was sculpted out of a river valley carved by an ancient glacier. Its signature hole is #15, a 227-yard, par 3, nicknamed "Mercy," and featuring a plateau green that is hard to read. Hole #18, a 458-yard, par 4, was voted one of "The Best 18 Holes You Can Play" by "Golf Digest" in 1997. The tee box on this hole sits on a high bluff overlooking the Sheboygan River, and the fairway sits down in a flat floodplain, separated from the river bank on the right by trees. The second shot must carry a swiftly-flowing river and miss tree limbs left and right, and land on a huge double green. The River Course is one of just six courses in North America to receive five stars ("Golf at its absolute best") in "Golf Digest's, Places to Play Guidebook." It was also named as the "Best in State" course by "Golf Digest" for the years 1995 through 1998. In addition, "GOLF Magazine" rated it 94th among the "Top 100 Courses in the U.S." for 1995, 71st in 1997 and 67th in 1999. The same publication awarded it 3rd in the category of "Top 100 Courses You Can Play in the U.S." for both 1996 and 1998. "GOLFWEEK" rated the River Course 10th among "America's 100 Best Modern Courses" in 1997, 13th for 1998 and 12th for 1999. Blackwolf Run hosted the LPGA U.S. Open in 1998. The Meadow Valleys Course was named the 5th "Best in State" course for years 1995 through 1998. In addition, "GOLF Magazine" rated this course 34th best in the 1998 category of "Top 100 Courses You Can Play in the U.S."
