Course Description
This facility, which was named to "GOLF Magazine's" 1998 list of "Gold Medal Resorts," features an outstanding target-style course that is located along the rugged coast of Lanai. The design is very unique because it was built on several hundred acres of natural lava outcroppings, and among Kiawe and wild Llima trees. The holes are constructed on the side of a hill above the ocean, and every hole offers a fantastic view of the ocean. From all but the forward tees, virtually every tee shot requires you to cross a mini-canyon to get to the fairway. The fairways are open and the greens are small and fast. The signature hole is #12, a beautiful par 3, in which you tee off from a cliff over the ocean with the green located on another cliff. The carry on this hole from the men's tee is about 185 yards. From the championship tee it requires a 202 yard tee shot to reach the green. Hole #17 is another beautiful hole, with a 215-yard carry over the ocean from the back tee. The course has several blind tee and approach shots. There are several sand bunkers on the course, a few constructed with multiple fingers. Hole #16, a 458-yard, par 4, has a sand bunker in the middle of the fairway. Because of the hillside construction, there are numerous changes in elevation throughout the course. There are five separate tee boxes per hole. "GOLF Magazine" selected this course 37th on its 1998 list of the "Top 100 Courses You Can Play in the U.S."
