Course Description
This facility offers two championship eighteen hole courses. Both courses are very scenic as they meander through the valley and alongside the surrounding bluffs. The club is located near the Village of Saint Albans where Meriwether Lewis is believed to have fallen from a 100-foot bluff, nearly losing his life and almost ending the historic Lewis and Clark expedition. This club, located on approximately 350 acres of some of the most scenic land in the area, features world-class golf facilities, tennis courts and a Junior Olympic swimming pool. The design team of Weiskopf and Morrish have a reputation for designing courses that are both challenging to advanced players, yet fair to beginners. The Lewis and Clark Course has fairways designed in the links-style manner. The back nine has more hills and trees than the front nine holes. Water hazards come into play on a few holes. The signature hole on Lewis and Clark is #12, a 152-yard, par 3, which calls for an elevated tee shot, then a downhill approach to a green that incorporates a beautifully landscaped rock wall on its back side that measures twenty feet in height. The front nine holes on the Tavern Creek Course are narrow and short. There is a premium placed on shot accuracy, not length. "Golf Digest" rated the Lewis and Clark as the 4th "Best in State" course for 1995-96, and the 3rd best for 1997-98. "Golf Digest" selected the Tavern Creek Course 4th on its list of "Best New Private Courses" for 1998.
