Course Description
This club, which hosted the U.S. Open in 1955, 1966, 1987, and 1998, offers two regulation eighteen hole courses and a nine hole par 3 course. These beautiful courses offer spectacular views of the Golden Gate Bridge, and an abundance of trees make these courses very difficult. There are no water hazards on the Lake Course and only one fairway bunker. The Cliffs Course is a nine hole par 3 course, which plays alongside the ocean. The green fees indicated for the Cliffs Course apply only to members who do not hold golf privileges. No one may play this course unless they are a member of the Olympic Club. The club also hosted the PGA Tour Championship in October 1993 and 1994. The ladies’ par on the Lake Course is actually 76. Caddies are mandatory if you choose to walk the regulation courses. This club was originally founded in 1879 and was listed by the USGA as one of the first 100 clubs established in the U.S. In addition, it was recognized by "GOLF Magazine" in their 1995 list of "The First 100 Clubs in America." "Golf Digest" rated the Lake Course 11th best out of "America's 100 Greatest Courses" from 1995 through 1998, and the 3rd "Best in State" course for the same time frame. Other awards include a ranking of 17th in "GOLF Magazine's" 1995, 1997 and 1999 lists of the "Top 100 Courses in the U.S.," and "GOLFWEEK's" category of "America's 100 Best Classical Courses" for 1997, 1998 and 1999.
