Course Description
This facility has two dynamic eighteen hole courses. These desert courses have an ample amount of rough lining their wide-open tifdwarf fairways. The Talon Course features elevated greens that are extremely large and undulating, and water hazards come into play on two holes. This course offers a myriad of panoramic views encompassing the McDowell Mountains and the Phoenix Valley. The most difficult hole is #6, a 459-yard, par 4, requiring a long straightaway tee shot in order to make a par or birdie. Another interesting hole is #17, a 126-yard, par 3, requiring a shot to an island green. However the best hole is #11, a 175-yard, par 3, which was voted one of "The Best 18 Holes You Can Play" by "Golf Digest" in 1997. This hole, called "Swinging Bridge," requires a carry over a desert hollow and a deep front bunker to a wide and deep green, which has two levels. "Golf Digest" rated the Talon 56th among the "Top 75 Upscale Courses" for 1996, and they also rated it as the 12th "Best in State" course for 1997-98. "GOLF Magazine" selected it 47th among the "Top 100 Courses You Can Play in their U.S." for 1998. The 5,867-yard men's tee on the Talon Course also has a ladies' course rating of 73.6 and slope of 133. The Raptor Course, which opened in 1995, is very scenic and has unique views that could catch any golfers' eye, including the large lake that is adjacent to the clubhouse and hole #18, a 521-yard, par 5. "GOLF Magazine" ranked the Raptor 49th best under the 1998 category of the "Top 100 You Can Play in the U.S.," and "Golf Digest" rated it as the 18th "Best in State" course for 1997-98. The tee time reservation telephone number is (480) 502-1800. The club hosted the semi-finals and finals of the Anderson Consulting World Match Championship, famous for being the "world's richest tournament." This club also hosted the first World Championship of Golf in 1995.
