Pine Valley Golf Club - Pine Valley Course -- 44 years ago
Review by: Jim McGrath In 1961 I worked as a salesman for a company owned by a Pine Vally member, Mr. Robert Driver. Through Mr. Driver's membership I was allowed to entertain clients. With 3 guests I managed to score a 40 on the first nine, boggied #10 and parred every hole up to #18. I kind of skyed my tee ball on 18 but it was down the center. Upon approaching my ball I said to my caddie, "can I get home with a 5 wood"? He answered, "I don't think you have anything in the bag to get you home". I said I was playing so well I had to try it and took out my 3 wood. I had played "The Valley" a few times with Mr. Driver so I knew my caddie's advice to hit it over the pond and over the left hand sand bunker as the green kicks everything to the right. The shot came off the club like it was shot from a bazooka. The caddie turned to me and said, "you might just have a gimmie". I did, the ball wound up 4 inches from the cup. I birddied 18 and parred the back side for the most memorable golf experience of my life. I am now 73 years old, hold a 21 handicap, play 3 times a week and still expound this story to my friends at least once a month. Forty-four years ago I was an 8 handicap at Burlington Country Club in Mount Holly, New Jersey.
