Old North State Club at Uwharrie Point

Old North State Club at Uwharrie Point -- Unappreciated Gem
Review by: George Henderson Fabulous Tom Fazio design that is built along large lake. Challenging but fair. A true mountain course as it is in Uwharrie National Forest and Mountains. Up hill, down hill, side hill lies make it a full experience. Greens consistently good. Great views of lake from several holes. Consistently rated as one of the best in North Carolina. Clubhouse and seperate pro shop are top notch. Homes are attractive and do not "canyon" the fairways. One of the nicest total golf course communities I have seen with its own marina for those "off golf" days.

Sapphire Mountain Golf Club -- mountains, mountains, mountains
Review by: B Klingel One of a few public courses around Cashiers, NC, Sapphire Mtn gets roughed up by the end of the summer, but the magnificent views and surroundings more than make up for the divots and ball marks. If this course had the budget and exlusivity of thw Wade Hampton or Cullasaja Club, it would be ranked among the prettiest. Although, the level of difficulty and short overall length would keep the big hitters and more skilled away. I love to play here anyway. P.S. Hole #13, magnificent as any. Although multiple golfer's websites say that you must drive over the beautiful waterfall, rather you must take your approach shot up and over the waterfall that is pouring out the overflow from Fairfield Lake in the shadows of beautiful Bald Rock Mtn. Don't miss a canoe trip or hike around this lake.
