Old North State Club at Uwharrie Point -- Unappreciated Gem
Review by: George Henderson Fabulous Tom Fazio design that is built along large lake. Challenging but fair. A true mountain course as it is in Uwharrie National Forest and Mountains. Up hill, down hill, side hill lies make it a full experience. Greens consistently good. Great views of lake from several holes. Consistently rated as one of the best in North Carolina. Clubhouse and seperate pro shop are top notch. Homes are attractive and do not "canyon" the fairways. One of the nicest total golf course communities I have seen with its own marina for those "off golf" days.

Linville Ridge Country Club -- Breath Taking Views
Review by: TG A great golf experience. If you are ever presented with the oppurtunity to play this ultra-private golf club...DO NOT PASS IT UP. Linville Ridge presents some of the most amazing views you could imagine. It is also home to some of the fastest greens in the country. One correction to the is true that Linville Ridge does have the highest point on a golf course east of the Missisippi River, it is not the 11th hole, but rather the the Par 3, 8th hole. The 8th hole is one of the most incrediable Par 3's you will ever play. It measures just under 200 yards from the tips and I have seen people hit as little as 9 iron there becasue of the severe down hill shape of the hole. On a clear day from the 8th tee one can see the skyline of Charlotte, which is over 80 miles away. This is one of five true gems in the Linville area, (Grandfather, Linville Golf Club, Elk River, and Double Black Diamond). Each of these course is more exclusive than the previous, good luck getting on any of them.
