Chief at Sky Lodge Golf Course, The -- *Bring it on!*
Review by: Golfer Jim	The Chief is perhaps the most challenging course I have played in northern Michigan. While it is a toughy, especially from the tips, it brings out a carnal instinct in me to play it again because I know that with my new knowledge I can improve my score. The course was in great shape with its bent tees, greens and fairways nicely manicured. The pro indicated that they just lowered the length of the rough, which made a great improvement. Service was also great in the shop. Leave your driver at home and have some fun.

A-Ga-Ming Golf Club -- *one of Northern Michigan's best golf deals*
Review by: Jeff Smith	This course is great. The view, from the club house, overlooking several miles of Torch Lake's 22 mile length is tremendous -- and the golf at A Ga Ming is excellent, too. Beautiful fairways and challenging ups and downs will give you your money's worth. The price for golf here is a deal - especially when compared to the high prices charged at many other northern Michigan courses.....with far less pretty holes.

Pines Municipal Golf Course, The
"Tough for it's size"
I'm origianally from Toccoa and have played this golf course many many times. While only a 9 hole course, it is worth the money to play it. It is far less expensive than most golf corses and offers real challenges for even experienced golfers. The terrain is extremely hilly and almost every hole has an extreme change in elavation. The green's are extremely small and very very fast. During the summer the fairways and greens are fairly well manicured although winter play tends to be a little harder on some holes due to a harder fairways from less moisture. Fairways are extemely tight with hundreds of opportunities to lose balls in pine forests and a courseside lake on the last two holes. Overall, not an allstar course but for a quick, challenging, and inexpensive round well worth the time.

Pine Grove Country Club
"a hidden gem"
This course is a great blend of old and new, and calls for skilled shotmaking throughout the round. Originally opened around the turn of the century, the older holes are generally narrow, lined with huge pines, and have small, but accessible greens. The newer holes climb Iron Mountain, (take a cart!) and are defined in large part by elevation changes which require a 2-3 club adjustment. These greens are much larger, but more difficult to read and putt due to the mountain topography. All of the par 5's are reachable for the stronger golfers, but three of them are dog-legs which swallow errant drives...grip it and rip it at your own risk. This is a nice course; we play it every summer and have been made to feel very welcome as visitors. The members built a new club house 3 years ago after vandals burned the old one. Nice locker room, bar, dining area and pro shop. I would rate this course at 3 1/2 stars and with only slightly better maintenance and grooming the rating would go to a 4. You'll be pleasantly surprised if you try this course.

Course at Westland, The
"Nice course"
The course at Westland is a nice course but some of the holes are right on the interstate and that can be a nusense. Otherwise the course is well kept and can be a great place to play if the conditions are right. Now i have only played there about 6 times and i have gone on the best days and the worst days, the course held up on the rainy days and was indcredible on the beutiful of days. I highly recomend to go to the cours at Westland if your ever in jacksonville. diddn't think i was 13 when ya read it did ya??
