What a treat to play this beautiful and challenging course! Of all the courses that we have played in the Valley, River Bend was by far in the best condition with lusher, greener and prettier fairway grass and greens. Everything was clean and well maintained. Everyone was friendly and helpful. We especially enjoyed the marshall that day. Had a wonderful day of golf. Hoping to go back soon.

Review by: Anonymous	The course is in excellent shape given the heat of the valley. The greens are typically slow south Texas greens, however, they are for the most part true. The course has challenging and enjoyable holes. Great for the local golfer and for a cost reasonable outing.

This course has so much potential. As it stands it is still one of the best courses in Houston for one thing and one thing only: Greens. It is just unfortunate that it has changed management hands several times in the last few years. In the process, each regime has focused on different things. Mostly cutting back on what the previous management did. No overseeding fairways in winter, Sand bunkers that qualify as gumbo bunkers, No restrooms on course, carts that badly need replacement. To compete with area course price points, they have dropped their average rates. What this means is more course play with less revenue. Couple this with the fact that there is less maintenance staff and no one fills in divots. Looks like a bombing campaign afterphoto on some fairways. The claim to fame is "Best greens in Houston". While this may still be true, the overall package is declining. I am concerned that even the greens may suffer as a consequence of the extra play and reduced maintenance. They used to put balls out on the range, but no more. They have some funky bag system where you lug these large red bags to the range with you. It could be so much better. Aesthetics are an afterthought. Actually, no one is thinking of aesthetics at all. I think they just keep thinking they can coast on the fumes of the reputation of their greens. Their slogan when the club opened 6 years ago was "Country Club for a day". An updated version would be more like "Mcgolf with your redneck buddies for a day".

THE COURSE HAS A EXCELLENT SET OF GREENS AND THE FAIRWAYS ARE NOT BAD EITHER. NOT ONE OF THE HARDEST COURSES AROUND, BUT DEFINITLY A GOOD ONE.

Dogwood Golf & Country Club
"xtreme golfer"
I first played this course in the winter season and I was really impressed with the condition it was in. The fairways which are Bermuda were dormant, but very well maintained. The layout was quite challenging, especially the 2nd hole which required a nice fade over trees which would put you in position for a nice approach to an elevated green. For those without a fade in your bag, this hole would stretch your imagination and skill level to attempt to go for it in two. The remainder of the front-side consisted of two other dog-legs to the right which again would require a nice fade shot in order to reach in regulation. The finishing hole on the front side is fairly long, but straighforward - again another dog-leg to the right. On the back side, your course management skills are challenged very early on the second hole. From an elevated tee shot you can attempt a 240+ drive to an elevated fairway. If not executed properly, you can find your tee shot in the woods (left OB), in water (right and short). This hole requires good course management and disclipline. The remainder of backside plays either up or downhill with water coming into play on several of them. The greens are medium to large, but fair. Overall, I was challenged on this course and have considered joining this course in the the spring. Rates are very affordable.
