Shepherds Hollow Golf Club -- *Up north goes south*
Review by: Jeff	Wow is the first thing you will say when you get to Shepherd's Hollow, and that's just when you pull into the parking lot. From the moment you turn into the half-mile driveway to the clubhouse, you wil feel like you are as far from civilization as you can get. Just like a northern Michigan course, Shepherd's is very beautiful, and very, very challenging. Each hole is like a new obstacle to overcome. From menacing rough to blind approach shots, not to mention the greens that have more bend to them than a silly straw, this course will stare down golfers of every caliber. But when all is said and done, Shepherd's will be 18 holes, or 27 if you're up to it, that you will remember forever.

Review by: Anonymous	Many holes where fairways run side by side. Improvements are being made to block unsuspecting golf balls from another fairway. Greens are definitely tough for the average golfer and not soft enough to land at the pin.

Shepherds Hollow Golf Club -- *Great golf expirence*
Review by: Mike	You truly get the "up north" feeling without the hassle and expense. Professionally designed greens require an accurate approach or you are left with a challenge to two putt. Not a lot of water, but the masterful placement of bunkers makes fairway play a challenge.

"Upscale heading Downscale"
This course has so much potential. As it stands it is still one of the best courses in Houston for one thing and one thing only: Greens. It is just unfortunate that it has changed management hands several times in the last few years. In the process, each regime has focused on different things. Mostly cutting back on what the previous management did. No overseeding fairways in winter, Sand bunkers that qualify as gumbo bunkers, No restrooms on course, carts that badly need replacement. To compete with area course price points, they have dropped their average rates. What this means is more course play with less revenue. Couple this with the fact that there is less maintenance staff and no one fills in divots. Looks like a bombing campaign afterphoto on some fairways. The claim to fame is "Best greens in Houston". While this may still be true, the overall package is declining. I am concerned that even the greens may suffer as a consequence of the extra play and reduced maintenance. They used to put balls out on the range, but no more. They have some funky bag system where you lug these large red bags to the range with you. It could be so much better. Aesthetics are an afterthought. Actually, no one is thinking of aesthetics at all. I think they just keep thinking they can coast on the fumes of the reputation of their greens. Their slogan when the club opened 6 years ago was "Country Club for a day". An updated version would be more like "Mcgolf with your redneck buddies for a day".

Houston Oaks Golf Club - Oaks Course
"The Oaks Course"
A very different challenging layout. A need for power, finesse and a little luck will be needed on this course. Fairways in good shape. Greens are in good shape but could be faster. A decent value for your money.

Chaparral Country Club
"Basic golf outing"
In Bullhead City, the wind usually blows hard. This course is short, albeit somewhat challenging, because of the conditions played in. The fairways are unremarkable, the greens putt mostly true, although is tough to read. Usually putt the straight line and on the hard side to get them in. You won't need driver too often. Better than a kick in the head, but not the best golf around. Good practice.

Deerfield Lakes Golf Course
"Great bargain for a great course!"
A fun and challenging course. Played the course for years and I have never seen it in better shape. The greens are fast but not out of control and the fairways are nicely kept. All in all, great low rates for a real nice course.
