| Conquistador Golf Course -- Old and new Press |
| Review by: Adam Clayman |
With a decade between construction of the two seperate nines, this course is a time capsule in green construction and indirectly, golf course design philosophy.
The front nine greens, built in '61, hug the land and were built by the son of a famous architect, Press Maxwell. Press's pa, Perry, is responsible for some great courses among them Prairie Dunes in Hutchinson Ks.
Enjoyable, walking golf course at elevation, is a nice change from the cart path climbing monstosities built today.
A tree removal program and recapturing some old fill pads, would make this hidden gem really shine. |

Decent course but the lack of flexibility on the course policies ruin an otherwise decent experience. We got to the middle of the 2nd fairway only to be ran off due to lighting and rain. They wouldn't cut us a break on the fees and charged us for playing. I won't be back again and would rather play where they value the relationship between the golfer and the course. |
