Review by: Jerry Burrell I played the course on 1/20/05. The weather was beautiful which made the experience much nicer. I thought that hte course had very good personality and character. The terrain was hilly for Texas, which for a Tennessee player, made it more familiar. I thought that amount of trouble was a good balance. The course layout rewarded good shots and fairly penalized the wayward ones. A good amount of trees are on the course, and the layout seemed to go with the natural flow of the terrain present before the course was built. The tees were in good condition, fairly sized, fairly spaced, and elevated most of the time. The elevated tees helped the player see the layout of the hole as well as teh preferred landing areas in the fairways. There was a few hidden swales and valleys that were there but not too many. The greens were undulated but not too much. They were good sized greens. There were a few spots on the greens that seemed to be a little unfair when and if the speed of greens were up, e.g., summer time. I liked the split fairway holes. It really tempts the player to go for the narrow opening but after study the reward for a successful good shot in that area wasn't good enough to take the chance. Even though the length of the course was about 6500 yards, it played a little longer than that due to having a number of dogleg holes, most of which were fairway wood off the tee distances. I didn't mention it but I played the Gold - Championship tees and fired an 80 (a little disappointed but not too much - haven't played since Thanksgiving '04). Overall, I would really like to play the course again during the warmer season.
