Emerson Golf Club

Featured Golf Course Review:
Emerson Golf Club -- Decent long course
Review by: JG The course is long and forgiving on the front 9 with more accuracy required on the back. The greens are furry and slow and do not break as much as they visibly appear. as with any public course, etiquette and lack of ball mark repair take their toll late in the season on the greens. Overall a pleasurable golfing experience.

Bowling Green Golf & Tennis Club -- An apple a day.......
Review by: John Hiers As a Southern California transplant, I have found public golf here in North Jersey a rude awakening. Bowling Green, however, is a little gem out on the edge of civilization that reminds me a bit if home. The staff is friendly and offers, of all things, cold, crisp apples on the first tee. The course is well conditioned with fairly fast greens, moderately bunkered with most fairways being tree lined. The course is challenging but never frustratingly punitive. One oddity though is that the longer hitter really can't pull out the driver until the 6th hole where he faces a 420 yard 4 par requiring cut shot to a 20 yard wide landing area. That's a tough first swing with the driver! There are some other interesting holes such as the short par five, dogleg left, 4th. This hole is "un-snipable", that is, the long hitter can't simply blast it over the corner. Distance and direction control on the tee shot will determine if youre looking at a 4 or a 7. Not every hole on the course presents such a fascinating conundrum, but overall the layout is thoughtful and calls for return visits. As for the amenities, the bar/restaurant is comfortable and offers good value. There is a range but they offer driving mats only (I wish they would re-think this as they are not very busy and have plenty of room). The practice putting green is very fast and they allow chipping. All in all, $52 for a weekday walk seems a little salty but the challenge, scenery, fast play and sweet apples keep me coming back.
