Maplehurst Country Club -- *Maplehurst CC - Review*
Review by: Mark	Out of bounds on the left for the first 6 holes. Every par 3 is a possible double. Some short pars fours to get a stroke or two back. One short and three longish and quirkly par 5s. Very hilly. Take a cart if you're not in good shape: empty your bag if you walk. Many side-hill lies. Very open on most of the course so you can recover from wild drives (but see first comment). This course can be very windy. The upper holes offer a great view of Frostburg below. Very squishy in the early season. Greens are well maintained but the bunkers are in poor shape most of the time and the tee boxes need work. A pretty course with good greens. Worth the walk/ride.

Gunpowder Golf Club -- *Gunpowder golf*
Review by: jabobo	The best part about the course is it has character and once you play here u will play other courses with ease. Ease meaning that you will be able to get a decent lie at other courses since the rough is quite litterly rough with all of the rocks and the fairway looks like a well mainted hiking trail. PLaying here also gives you the oppertunity to practice some shots in situations that you would normally not face, such as hitting out of a giant dirt pile in the middle of a fairway or chipping from behind a sprinkeler. And when your buddy coughes when you try to putt on a nice course you will be able to block it out since normally there the green is being mowed right behind you and they dont stop during your back swing.A word to the wise before you putt though, the big hole in the middle of the green, although it is usally more of a brown color with ruts and just dead grass, is a sprinkler not the actual hole. If you want a good adventure course and don't mind having to bring a hammer to put your tee into the ground this just might be a course for you.

"Good course to teach your kids"
This is a good course to teach tour kids how to golf, because it is a moderately short course. I took my 8 year old son golfing there, and he shot a 58! Not too bad for his first time out, and he had a blast!We have been back twice and can't wait for sping to go again.

This course has so much potential. As it stands it is still one of the best courses in Houston for one thing and one thing only: Greens. It is just unfortunate that it has changed management hands several times in the last few years. In the process, each regime has focused on different things. Mostly cutting back on what the previous management did. No overseeding fairways in winter, Sand bunkers that qualify as gumbo bunkers, No restrooms on course, carts that badly need replacement. To compete with area course price points, they have dropped their average rates. What this means is more course play with less revenue. Couple this with the fact that there is less maintenance staff and no one fills in divots. Looks like a bombing campaign afterphoto on some fairways. The claim to fame is "Best greens in Houston". While this may still be true, the overall package is declining. I am concerned that even the greens may suffer as a consequence of the extra play and reduced maintenance. They used to put balls out on the range, but no more. They have some funky bag system where you lug these large red bags to the range with you. It could be so much better. Aesthetics are an afterthought. Actually, no one is thinking of aesthetics at all. I think they just keep thinking they can coast on the fumes of the reputation of their greens. Their slogan when the club opened 6 years ago was "Country Club for a day". An updated version would be more like "Mcgolf with your redneck buddies for a day".

Played course many times. Most enjoyable. Some forgiving holes and some challenging. All in all, a very playable course. Not too punitive. Want a challenge?, play the back tees. Most favorite hole is #12. Must get off good tee shot to be able to hold this canted green. Most of time you need to chip it to get it up and down for par. Most picturesque; #8. I'll be back...

"A great test with a great staff"
if you put your shoes on in the parking lot, and you want to teach the private club fellas a lesson about the grand old game, invite them to bring their games (and attitudes) to rockville's great local muni. make a mistake and add strokes to your round. manage your game, and your temperment, and put up a good number. the course has always been a top ranked muni, known to locals as a tough and demanding test of golf. redgate is not for high handicappers: do not tee off from the back tees unless you are a 10 or better, she'll eat you alive. if you want to play a solid course that will make you manage yourself and you game, try redgate, and when those private club guys wonder how it is they scored well above their posted handicaps, smile and mention that golf is meant to be played, not worshipped.
