Featured Golf Course Review:
| Oakmont Country Club -- Tough but Fair |
| Review by: Alan Amitin |
Oakmont is a picturesque layout in the foothills of Glendale with lovely mountain views. The course is an old-style country club layout which rewards well planned out shotmaking. The greens are usually very fast and reward players for being below the hole.
The Pac-10 Conference Championship was held at Oakmont in 2003 and only two players broke par (288) in a field of 50. The players found the par 3's particularly challenging.
The greens are very well protected with sand bunkers and the fairways are heavily tree-lined.
Best time to play Oakmont is in the spring and fall.
I find the twelfth hole to be the most challenging. It is a 420 yard par four, uphill and terraced. The green is long and narrow, two-tiered and protected by a large bunker on the right and a drop-off hill and trees on the left. |

SC is nice for what it is: short and fun with lovely views. Don't go there expecting a full, challenging day at a big course. |
