Additional Golf Course Reviews:
Country Club of Tuscaloosa -- A tough old gem
Review by: John Bretz I played this course for the first time in September 2005. Designed in 1920, it has the classic design elements of the time which include small greens with steep slopes. This is a short course but has plenty of challenge. Several fairly tight tree-lined fairways require a straight tee shot. I agree with the other posters that #13 is a very tight, demanding par 5 but frankly #9 is one of the most difficult par 3's I have played in 40 years. A 200 yard, downhill hole with a deep swale/gully in the front. The proper tee shot MUST carry to the center of the green or roll down off the front. CCT has three very good par 3's and two short par 5's that are tempting. The club suffers from an old downtown location and the metro area has long since grown over to the other side of the river where upscale private and public courses are excellent. But I would like to meet the Superintendent at CCT because these bermuda greens were absolutely flawless and beautiful I might add. Firm, without a ballmark and beautifully cut around the edges. This is a classic example of a course with a tight budget that does absolutely everything with its resources. I had a great time and hope this overlooked course - with its 85 year old heritage, stays around....

Golfable Golf Quote of the Day:
" Men who would face torture without a word become blasphemous at the short fourteenth. It is clear that the game of golf may well be included in that category of intolerable provocations which may legally excuse or mitigate behaviour not otherwise excusable. -- A.P. Herbert, Misleading Cases, 1935 "
