Port Groves Golf Club -- Fun to play
Review by: R. Rose I played my first round of golf on this course in 1958. I played there the morning of my wedding in 1969. I moved away and did not play there again until 2004. It is exactly as I remembered it. A fun wide open course. There are a few scrub trees and some water on the course. The club house is not well stocked but the staff is Southeast Texas friendly. The greens are very small so it takes a good short game to score. It is a fun place to play and although it is a 9 hole course there are multiple sets of tees so the yardage will be different the second time around.

Austin Country Club -- Real golf
Review by: Anonymous Bring your A game. This is a beautiful golf course and well maintained. The signature hole is not 16 but 3. It a par 5 with Lake Austin hard against the green on the left and traps on the right. Hole 18 is the finest finishing hole in Texas. The course never lets up. Only play the championship tees if you are a legitimate 3 or less handicap AND can drive the ball 290 yards. Play the blues only if you are a legitimate 9 or less. The green and white tees make for an enjoyable round for the rest of us. Be sure and pay tribute to Mr. Penick on the way to the first tee. The front nine is a links style along Lake Austin. The back side is a Texas Hill Country course with long carries over canyons.
