Ravisloe Country Club -- *PLus 4*
Review by: Anonymous	Originally designed in 1901 by James Foulis (from Old Tom's shop in St. Andrews), and revised by Donald Ross in the teens, Ravisloe is a classic of traditional golf architecture. Don't be fooled by its modest length; the trouble is thoughtfully placed, the fairways narrow, and the greens a tough defense. The stretch from 12-17 is awe inspiring, with great natural rhythm--i.e., pars 4-5-4-3-4-4. The bunkers throughout the course are some of the most unorthodox ever devised by Ross. This course is a gem!

Northeast Harbor Golf Club
"Seasonal member"
NEHGC is on the pleasant island of Mt.Desert in Downeast Maine. I live in Seal Harbor 6 mos. a yr and join the club as a seasonal member. The play is $255 and excludes June 26 thru Sept 6. It is by far the best deal on MDI and throughout the downeast region. The course is never crowded, and you can expect the service in the pro shop to be excellent. Beautifully maintained greens and fairways with the backdrop of surrounding mtns. and countryside make this course a well kept secret on busy MDI. Make a tee time after Sept. 30 to enjoy incredible foliage and ideal temperatures.

"Hidden Gem"
One of the best golf values I have seen. #1 hole is the worst hole on the course, with a ridiculous left to right sloping green that is impossible to hold. Make bogey here and you have a chance for a good round. After that, the architect did a good job of squeezing 8 holes into the available terrain. The real ambience of this course starts with #11, a long carry over a wash to a par 3. #10 is a drivable par 4 that could be improved a bit by narrowing the fairway to make it a bit more risky to go for the green. The rest of the back 9 is very well done, except for # 18, which is a pretty lame par 4. And then there is THE RATTLER, a very good par 6. Long hitters can get there in 3, setting up an eagle putt. But the 3rd is mostly carry over water. Overall one of the best courses I have played, especially for the money.
