Additional Golf Course Reviews:
Preserve, The -- Immaculate wandering course that is quite challenging
Review by: Jeff This course is set up to walk amidst the half-baked valleys and gentle slopes of the Santa Lucia Mts. The pace is relaxed, and spotting wild turkey, boar, various snakes and bobcats is not uncommon. There is a grand feeling to the course absent of clutter. The course itself has no signature hole, each is very strong, but all are fair. Distance off the tees is a must on holes 13 and 18, balls must carry breaktaking drops that make even the seasoned golfer swing a little out of his shoes. The par 5 17th and par 4 18th are without a doubt the most awesome finishing pair of holes I play. The Preserve is very challenging due to the unforgiving tall grasses that surround the fairways. There are some trees in play, very little water in play if at all. You must hit straight or risk losing a half dozen balls easily. Really bad golfers need not torture themselves on this course. If you're lucky enough to get on, you won't forget playing it. It is hard, but fair, immaculately maintained and the experience of the meandering course hypnotizes your senses. The turn at the 10th hole literally puts you miles from the clubhouse. Bring your sunscreen and your A game, but don't bring your cubanos, the course has a no smoking policy due to fire danger. The Preserve has first rate facilities, a driving range and two areas for putting and chiping to get you in order before you go out as well. The few who play it regulary are truly in golf heaven.
