Additional Golf Course Reviews:
El Toro Golf Course -- I like the course, but conditions are terrible!
Review by: Carl Williams This is another affordable, but disappointing course in Irvine (see my comments about Rancho San Joaquin). The length is it's best characteristic (6750 yards from the back tees), but that's probably the only positive thing to say about it. The course description shown on this site says "the rough is thick". This is simply not true. There is no rough! I'm pretty sure the maintenance crew is making no adjustments when they are cutting the grass at El Toro. This is good news if you're a beginner, but certainly lacks the character of a finer golf course. The fairways are in terrible shape. Lots of dead grass, dirt patches, crab grass, and obviously no attempt to repair divots. It's really a mess, and it can be very frustrating to land in a thin lie of dead grass and dirt...which is more often than not. I would recommend staying out of Irvine for golf unless you can afford Strawberry Farms or Oak Creek.
