The course at Kirkman's is open and free of sand traps, but don't let open ground fool you into thinking that the course can't be tough. Fairways narrow in places that give one pause before taking a risky shot to the green. Although the water in the area does not come into play if the wind is blowing several holes will have you talking to yourself when your ball lands short!! Large greens are easy to hit, but don't leave yourself too long a putt or bogeys will come quickly. |

Of the four municipal courses in Lincoln, Mahoney is probably the poorest. That is not to say that it is necessarily bad, however. The narrow fairways require straight tee shots, and a number of doglegs demand accurate placement. The eighth hole is extremely difficult-a 420 yd par 4 with a downhill tee shot and water to your left, and then back uphill with a dogleg left to a bunker-guarded green. This course sees a lot of golfers, and occasionaly shows the wear, especially on the tees and greens. Pace of play is very slow on nice summer days. |
