Charlie Vettiner Golf Course -- *Tough from the Tips*
Review by: Kevin	Charlie Vettiner Golf Course in Jeffersontown, KY is part of the Louisville Metro Parks system. In my opinion, it is the hardest of all the public courses in the metro area. The course plays to 6914 from the tips. Talking with pro Carl Owens the other day, I learned that Tiger Woods would only be able to drive the par 4 12th with a perfect fade over the right trees on this severe dogleg right. The course is formidable because of the number of hazards. Traps abound, creeks flow throughout, and you must be able to hit the ball from all possible stances on most holes. Green fees are $13.00 to walk and $25.00 to ride. Beers are $1.75.

Review by: hilltopperfan	We have played here about 8 times and for a public course it is a challange for a scratch golfer, the fairways can be narrow and there are a few hazards to negotiate. The greens need work and the rough can be dangerous but for what you pay it is ideal.

Oakmont Country Club
"Tough but Fair"
Oakmont is a picturesque layout in the foothills of Glendale with lovely mountain views. The course is an old-style country club layout which rewards well planned out shotmaking. The greens are usually very fast and reward players for being below the hole. The Pac-10 Conference Championship was held at Oakmont in 2003 and only two players broke par (288) in a field of 50. The players found the par 3's particularly challenging. The greens are very well protected with sand bunkers and the fairways are heavily tree-lined. Best time to play Oakmont is in the spring and fall. I find the twelfth hole to be the most challenging. It is a 420 yard par four, uphill and terraced. The green is long and narrow, two-tiered and protected by a large bunker on the right and a drop-off hill and trees on the left.

Wynstone Golf Club

Wynstone is situated on a topographically diverse landscape, unbecoming of many Chicagoland golf venues. It has abundant wildlife which adds to the course's balance between a parkland and wetland. Wynstone also offers a unique challenge for any golfer. Not only is the golf course difficult at 7,000+ yards, but also presents a challenge to any comers at 6,500. Both birdies and bogies are easily found throughout the track. Finally, the course is maintained hard and fast. Fairways and greens are firm which requires and rewards shotmaking.
