The Fields (a.k.a. Frank's Place) is special for many reasons, each hole is unique, and the beauty and challenge of them all inspires my best golf (you will hear others say something of a similar nature). The land captivates all your senses and focus comes naturally as you stand on every tee - as if I am meant to be there when I am - it is the only course I've played where I can truly forget about life for a while.
The conditioning of the course rivals many top name clubs, the greens usually roll to a 9.5 or 10, and they can be taken to a 13 in less than 48 hours. Local knowledge is critical; ask for a few tips when you first play it and take good mental notes for future rounds. On Memorial Day 2001 I shot my best, a 75 from the Blues by a mid 80s player.
The staff always makes you feel welcome and when Frank can join us his dogs follow along, scouting ahead with a display of tact and etiquette from which most golfers could learn. You will want to play until the moon rises, and as you leave you look forward to your next visit.
This track is special for many reasons - a pure golfing experience is one of them.
