Featured Golf Course Review:
Oak Forest Country Club -- Its OK
Review by: Robert The course is pretty difficult because of tight fairways. My biggest complaints are a lack of rough and the greens are never in great shape.

Gus Wortham Park Golf Course -- Nice layout, good price
Review by: Puttster Only 3 miles from downtown, this course used to be the Houston CC. It was allowed to decay and then in 2003 the City took it back and has been upgrading it ever since. Unfortunately many fairways still have weeds in them, three greens are in desperate shape and the bayou that meanders through is nasty. But every month the course looks better. My guess is it will be back to 100% in 2006. The layout is excellent. The course has a good variety of holes without being quirky, except maybe the 247 yd par 3 16th. Only 6,100 yards from the blues but I usually score the same as at Houston Memorial, which is 6,600. One of the culprits is three consecutive par 5's all with OB to the right. It is an old-fashioned course, easy walking ($16.50 on weekends). It has all the practice facilities, excellent cheeseburgers and the weekend beer cart girls come from nearby UofH. Ball resellers hang outside the fence and you can almost get your greens fees back with good deals on used balls. The pro there excellent. Gus can be tough to get on Saturday morning but for the most part word of the improvements has not gotten out and you can walk right on.
