| Minocqua Country Club -- One of Wisconsin's Best |
| Review by: Gordon Magee |
Minocqua Country Club was completely overhauled several years ago by golf course architect Ron Garl. It has been nominated as one of Golf Digest's Best New Courses. The course has really come into its own: bent grass fairways that are immaculate and greens that are pro-level quality and speed on the Stimpmeter, all in a fantastic and fair layout.
The slope rating is 135 from the tips at 6722 yards, 132 and 128 from the next two tee boxes. 6 tee boxes per hole make the course work for all handicap levels.
It has fantastic practice facilities: driving range, multiple target greens for chipping/pitching, sand trap practice area and practice putting green.
Last year I played with a visitor to our area at another local course. As we spoke about Minocqua Country Club, he, like me, raved about it. He has played Whistling Straits and Black Wolf Run, as well as Pebble Beach and Augusta National and other famous courses. He knows a good course when he sees one.
He put Minocqua Country Club right there with Black Wolf Run and rated it in his top 5 in the state of Wisconsin.
It is a jewel that not everyone has found yet, but they will. |
