Weequahic Park Golf Course -- Amazing to find golf like this in Newark!
Review by: Bob I was amazed to find this compact course tucked away in a corner of grimy Newark NJ. The fairways were nicely trimmed, with not unruly rough on the sides, and the greens were as good as some private courses I've played. Certainly not the "green concrete" greens you're used to seeing on a public course. Sure, the tee boxes could be better marked (I think the markers were all stolen or something), and the traps could use more attention to refilling with real puffy sand (as opposed to the tamped down white rocky stuff I found there, way too many times for one round of golf), but hey - this is Newark, after all. There's a big forbidding fence around the perimeter, and the atmosphere was pleasant, safe, and quite civilized. Highly recommend for a quick afternoon getaway - you'll be pleasantly surprised at the quality of play to be had here.

Francis Byrne Golf Course -- Tough Course ... Good Exercise
Review by: Chris The lack of par 5's makes birdies tough to come by. Plenty of elevated greens, slopy fairways smallish greens. Being in the South Mountain area, the course has many several holes where you drive downhill; very picturesque. Hole 4: tee straight up maybe 30 feet and doglegs left. Hole 9: must be some 7 stories high. Hole 10: long drive with elevated green to the left. Lots of up and down... walk for a good exercise.
