|Swan Lake Country Club -- Birch Tree Trouble|
|Review by: Mike Andreas||A medium difficulty course with several fairways lined with about a zillion birch trees. If you put it in the birch forest, count on punching out a short iron (maybe). Hit the tall pine beer trees on number 1, 7, or 8 and it costs you. Nice folks at this course. Got my first eagle there about 41 years ago, but then it was a par four, now it's a par three because the highway took some of the fairway.
Shortcoming: some bumpy fairways. Strong points, drains well, good small greens of the old fashioned variety.

|Maple Valley Golf & Country Club -- Too Much Fun!!!|
|Review by: Jobe||Maple Valley has to be one of the most enjoyable courses to play in the S.E. Minnesota area. Mostly because it has such a mix of tough, medium, and easy holes. Not a very long course, but when played from the Back tees you certainly can have your hands full, especially if the wind comes up!! You better get your scoring done on the front nine, the back has the tendency to bring out your weaknesses if you don't hit the ball straight! Position is certainly the key to making par or better on all but one of the par 5's. The greens are usually very soft and receptive and are set up to be a comfortable putting speed. The greens are a small target though and the rough is kept thick enough to penalize you for missing. The only "complaint" that you hear at Maple Valley is the Tee Boxes. They are not very level, it is tough to find a good spot to where your feet aren't above or below the ball and the tend to get a little spotty. This course has had some flooding problems in the past with the beautiful (Ball Attracting) Root River flowing through both 9's, but they always work there tails off to get this course back on track! If you are in S.E. Minnesota and are looking for a very fun course with "Minnesota Nice" people running it, this is the one to go to! Don't forget your camera, listen for Wild Turkey's, and you never know you may have a White Tail come out and say hello. Have a great round where ever you are!|
