De Laveaga Golf Course
Pasatiempo Golf Club

Featured Golf Course Review:
De Laveaga Golf Course -- Great local public course
Review by: a local golfer--who's played all of USA Fun course--unlike Pasatiempo this is a public course--in the mountains, but some views of the ocean off certain holes. Course is hilly on the front nine--fairly flat on the back nine. Expensive compared to most courses, but cheap for the Santa Cruz/Monterey County area, which is probably the best area to play golf in the country (other courses here are Pebble Beach, Poppy Hills, The Links at Spanish Bay, Spyglass Hill, and Pasatiempo--all ranked in the top 100 in the country.) And the well known Half Moon Bay course is up the coast an hour or so.

Pasatiempo Golf Club -- Awesome course set in California beach town
Review by: Joe Shmoe Pasatiempo is the best course that I have ever played. Alister Mackenzie, the architect of many courses including the legendary Augusta National (Home to the Masters Championship), named this course his masterpiece. The entire course is natural as it flows through valleys and over barancas. Throughout the course there are beautiful views of Santa Cruz on the Monterey Bay. This course is a must play for avid golfers.

De Laveaga Golf Course -- Great course, Excellent value for money.
Review by: Rick De Laveaga is my favorite course in Santa Cruz. It's got some very challenging holes that I return again and again to try to beat. My nemisis is #10, a par 5 that needs a long drive and a great 2nd shot that needs a long carry cutting the corner over a large ravine to have a prayer at par (I've only succeed at once). It's on top of a hill overlooking Monterey Bay, with some fantastic views. Quiet and removed from the city. It's a great place to spend an afternoon away from everything. The course is public and conditions have varied over the years, but has generally been pretty good the last couple. They are currently doing a major renovation and I am anxiously awaiting it's re-opening to full operation in July 2005. What I've seen looks pretty good. Greens fees are the lowest of any 18-hole course in the area and gets my vote for best value-for-the-money in the area.
