Bald Head Island Country Club -- frustrating
Review by: John McC Spectacular views, but frustrating golf. And a pain in the rear to get to. Advertised as one of those "special" courses, and may be if you are a 5 handicapp. I struggle to break 100, however, and this course was brutal. The fairways tended to have side slopes, and even shots in the middle of the fairway often dribbled down into water or the dense coastal underbrush. NO chance of rescuing a ball from that. Big gators, too, so I wasn't motivated to spend time searching for water balls. All in all, an expensive time not to have fun.

Flag Tree Golf Course -- Flagtree lost it's best and only Pro.
Review by: novice golfer Flagtree is a challenging course with plenty of sand traps, and beautiful water to cross. My favorite hole is the 10th, a long par 5, dogleg to the left with traps fronting the green and a pond to the right. The most difficult is the par 4 12th, where a long drive is required before you can take a second shot to the green over a large pond. The green has a 45 degree slope from the back down to the front. I have played this course for over 30 years. It was transformed into a great golf course with the addition of Pro, Phil Wallace, several years ago. He made more improvements to the course in a few short years, than the owner Bill Hayes had done in 30 years prior. Unfortunately, Mr. Hayes and Pro Wallace could not come to reasonable terms in the buy-out and Pro Wallace has moved on to another course. If the past is repeated, this course will soon fall victim to neglect. Too bad for a fun course layout.
