Granite Falls at Sun City -- Solid value
Review by: Craig I played the North Course as the guest of a resident for $30. The course is well-maintained with wide fairways and a fairly forgiving rough. However, if you hit into the desert or into someone's yard (this course, like the South Course, winds through a housing development) you may have some difficulty getting back onto fairway. The fairways are hilly, and the greens undulate, and they are FAST (at least today they were). Lots of fairway bunkers and bunkers around the greens, so while this isn't a difficult course, it isn't easy, either. The toughest for me was the 18th. It's a 500+ yard par 5 with water in front of and behind the green, and bunkers on the sides. Most people have to lay up their approach shot, then chip over the water onto the green. Then there's me. At 170 yards out, I went straight at the pin. The ball bounded off the green and into the backside water. Oops. :) Should have listened to the other folks in the foursome. As with most courses, there is a decent proshop (nothing spectacular) a restaurant/snack bar, and a practice area. The housing development caters to retirees and near-retirees, so the snackcart girl was 'mature' (but really pleasant). My biggest complaint with the course was the distance between the holes, necessitated by houses. Overall, a good value for the money - the course is challenging yet forgiving, and some of the views are great. While there are better courses in metro Phoenix, there are more that are worse.
