Rancho de Los Caballeros Golf Club -- recreational player
Review by: Barb I have played this course for nearly 30 years. It is always a challenge. It is interesting and can be quite trying in some of the winds that are often present. The couse is always in very nice condition, greens are true. My advice: stay out of the desert!

ASU Karsten Golf Course -- Not a course for beginners (like me :) )
Review by: Craig But still a great course. The previous reviewer was correct - you MUST stay on the fairway. The rough isn't too bad, but the mounds are killer. The fairways are narrow, but if you stay in them, the hitting surface is pristine. The course designers put in plenty of fairway bunkers, and there is always the ever-present desert to suck up errant shots. Water figures into some of the holes, but it doesn't get into the way if (stop me if you've heard this before :) ) you hit the ball straight. Even the "easy" holes are tough. The practice facility and pro shop are large and well-kept, and the staff is friendly. The course isn't a bargain, but it is definitely a good value (I paid summer rates - $35 for the round, including the cart). There is cheaper golf in metro Phoenix, but none of those courses rank with this one. It is easy to see why ASU sends so many players to the PGA and LPGA tours - if you can score well here, you can score well anywhere. I heartily recommend this course, just bring plenty of spare golf balls.
