Rancho San Joaquin Golf Course -- Who is responsible for the TRAGEDY at Rancho?
Review by: Carl Williams Just for the record; Rancho San Joaquin is my home course, and I've played at least 30 full rounds over 5 years. My handicap is currently 12, and I've played nearly every course in Orange County. This is a great "track"! I love the layout of this course because it's a great challenge for any golfer playing at the intermediate level. If I had a billion dollars, I'd buy this place, CLOSE it down for a year, and get it back into shape! The current daily fees for this course is a total JOKE when you compare it with other courses in the area. Costa Mesa Country Club has MUCH better conditions, and the fee is much more reasonable. The problem is with the course maintenance, and I'd like to know who is responsible?! Does the AGPA hire the groundskeeper and maintenance staff?? Read the review of this course at the AGPA.com site, and then PLAY it...I think you'll get a laugh! It's false advertising to say the least! The fairways are in HORRIBLE shape, and it seems like the greens have been punched and sanded for the third time this year! Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it normal to expect this kind of maintenance just twice a year? The fairways are a JOKE! Dirt patches and crab grass is rampant! There isn't any "rough" to penalize a missed fairway. In fact, you might suggest a missed fairway will give you a BETTER lie in some areas! If you want to play a course in Irvine that gives you a return for your greens fee, I would suggest Oak Creek or Strawberry Farms. But if you don't have $130 to spend on the weekend, you should probably stay away from Irvine golf. Rancho is a RIP OFF at $60.00. The course condition has steadily declined over the years...I hope the trend will reverse itself soon!

Golfable Golf Quote of the Day:
" I'm a golfaholic, no question about that. Counseling wouldn't help me. They'd have to put me in prison, and then I'd talk the warden into building a hole or two and teach him how to play. -- Lee Trevino "
