Marshallia Ranch Golf Course "Marshallia Rocks" This is one tough but, neat course. Carved out of the hills surrounding Vandenberg AFB, the layout is challenging and scenic. Play in the fall and winter for the best weather, because spring and summer can be very cool and windy. Each hole rewards a decent shot, but plucks out your heart if your shot runs errant. Ice plant gives a new meaning to the word, rough. Here's a putting tip, 90% of the putts break toward the high hills to the south, though you will swear it can't be. The course is usually in terrific condition and the Clubhouse very accomodating. Green fees, equipment and food are more than reasonable when compared to nearby courses. This is one gem all golfers must experience. ---John Aleck, Hayward, California
Rancho San Joaquin Golf Course "This course helped my game!" With it's many doglegs and elevation changes, this course will quickly teach the beginners how to setup their approaches, while giving the lower handicap players a reasonably challenging round.
5 of the first nine pins cannot be seen from the tees. If you spray your tee shots, you will surely be struggling to make par.
The par threes are deceiving with two short downhills, and two 150-ish up hills. These have been my achilles heel.
There are not to many water hazzards, but they are well/poorly place depending on your tendancies. They can easily swallow your ball if your not carefull.
The traps are typically limited to wrapping the greens, but watch out for the 5th hole, with its deceiving horizontal sand at 230 yards out.
The grounds are well kept with mid speed greens that exactly match the practice green. Prepare for an even mix of wide and narrow fairways, and many misleading doglegs, both slight and sharp.
This course has made me a better golfer, and I can't say that about many.
Enjoy! ---Dave Foster, Mesa, Arizona USA
Hilltop Country Club "Neatest course in Texas" I went and played a round of golf at the Hilltop Country Club last week for the first time. It was an expereince, the course is set up real cool. I was a high school golfer who would have loved to get out of school and walk to go play golf rather than riding 30 minutes on a bus to and from practice everyday. The course is on the grounds of Troup ISD.And after I got finished playing golf I walked to the 19th and had a cold budlight. The bar has what ever you want, and the ladies were so nice. ---N/A, Texas
Rancho Santa Fe Farms Golf Club "Chip M." Great golf course. Not too challenging, just perfect for my 3 handicap skill level. ---Skip Mailander, California
