This club hosted the Southwest Classic from 1981 through 1991. This long course has many sand bunkers spotted throughout its design, and there are water hazards on nine holes. One of the most difficult holes is #17, a 448-yard, par 4, requiring a tee shot that must carry at least 200 yards over water to the fairway.

Carolina Golf & Country Club
"Classic Donald Ross"
This course is short in yardage (6200), but plays much longer. One reason is that there are only 2 par 5's on a par 70 track. The par 3's are classic Ross. 3 of the 4 can play over 190 yards to postage stamp greens. There are a lot of down and up style par 4's, but there is also variety. Holes 10,11 and 18 are good examples of tough, well thought out par 4's that demand accuracy and thought. A four is an excellent score on all of these holes. The course is generally in excellent condition and has undergone some minor renovations. You will notice that the greens are exceptionally small, even for a Ross course. Greens are properly protected with bunkers and have just the right amount of undulation. One designer has stated that these are the smallest greens he has ever seen on a Ross course (which may be its claim of distinction among the many Ross courses). There is a premium on iron play and short game. Greens are quick, but not penal. Everyone thinks they can bring this course to its knees, but it usually is the other way around. "Overrated!!!"
September 2004.. Just an average course. Not taken care of like it was in the early 90's. Cartpaths nearly undriveable due to broken pavement and potholes. Several greens in poor condition. Sandtraps washedout. Overrated and Overpriced!!!!

"Fun little course"
This is a great course to learn for kids, they have a good teaching staff that offers camps clinics and private lessons. My kids have all participated in them and have learned alot about life skills both on and off the course.

Each spring for the past 20 years I have left the cold of Wisconsin to meet friends from Tenn.and Ohio for a weekend of golf. The course is always in excellent condition, The lodging,food etc. is great but most impressive is the staff. The friendliest folks you ever want to meet from check-in to check-out.Can't say enough about the experience.
