This links-style eighteen hole course was built on 1,000 acres of unspoiled land. The fairways are narrow, requiring straight shots off the tees. There are ten ponds and a couple of ditches that into play on almost all holes. The greens and tees are elevated, and some of the greens are undulating. The signature hole is #5, a 550-yard, par 5, which features a thirty-foot elevated tee shot that plays to a sculpted fairway. The fairway incorporates a waste bunker on the left side, a pond on the right, and then requires an approach shot that must avoid another pond that protects the front of the green.

Good spring golf at an affordable price, Mar 11, 2008

I played here for one week in March 2008 and found the course in very good shape. I woundn't call it a links style course but did enjoy it very much, just watch out for the water.

good course, neat and well kept, the clubhouse is not the best tho. but it is pretty good for thee green fees i would play here if your dont want to spend alot of money on golf

"The Best Pound for Pound"
The dunes is possibly the best course for the money in the entire state! I give the course five stars due to its all around duffer enjoyment. The course itself allows for not just a fun but also a challenging round. The beauty of such a course in such a desolate location is unbelievable, as is the staff. You couldnt ask for a friendlier environment!

"HARD TO GET ON - GREAT TO PLAY"
Course is a traditional style designed by Gene Hamm and renovated by John LaFoy in 1999. This is the only private course in Chapel Hill. Walking is encouraged and it is a great way to experience the course. Signature hole IS NOT # 14. It's # 10 which can require carry over water twice. Pin on this hole makes 3 to 4 clubs difference on second shot. It's a beauty! Only one hole without bunkers - the par 3 9th is about 175 uphill from middle tees. Out of bounds on many of the holes as the fairways rise and fall through a very established traditional and exclusive neighborhood. Greens are all large (with at least 6 different zones on each one for pin placement)and have many contours. Three putts are common - especially in spring and fall when the bent grass surface is kept very fast. Bring your thinking cap, but also bring your game if your fun comes from scoring well. It's not an easy course, but it's not Jack Nicklaus difficult either.

Northeast Harbor Golf Club

NEHGC is on the pleasant island of Mt.Desert in Downeast Maine. I live in Seal Harbor 6 mos. a yr and join the club as a seasonal member. The play is $255 and excludes June 26 thru Sept 6. It is by far the best deal on MDI and throughout the downeast region. The course is never crowded, and you can expect the service in the pro shop to be excellent. Beautifully maintained greens and fairways with the backdrop of surrounding mtns. and countryside make this course a well kept secret on busy MDI. Make a tee time after Sept. 30 to enjoy incredible foliage and ideal temperatures.
