This unique course was set up for the physically challenged and is supported by the Edwin Shaw Hospital Foundation. The course consists of three holes with three sets of tees per each hole. There are cart paths with many added adjustments. There are no water hazards, but there are sand bunkers. There are special features including wheelchair-accessible paths, customized golf carts and handrails to the greens. All the front tees have open and direct shots to the greens, so people won't have to overcome the course hazards. Hole #1 plays slightly uphill. Hole #2 requires an accurate shot to hit the smallest of three greens. Hole #3, the finishing hole, has a long, narrow green. The green fees indicated are for playing nine or eighteen holes.

Briar Creek Golf Course
"Enjoy Golf Again or The Way Golf Used To Be"
Briar Creek Golf Course is a fun course to be played by both medium and high handicap golfers. Its layout is a chalenging mix of 18 holes fit in a flat land leading up to the creek with hillside on the other side of the creek. Several ponds and sandtraps provide hazards to avoid while the greens are usually the best in the area. The drawback is its distance at only 5300+ yards and so low handicap golfers should play it but only to enjoy the chance at chasing a par round of 70. The true delight of this courses is its playability and round playing time of around 4hrs. There is no long slow play at Briar Creek due to its layout. The three finishing holes on the front nine include an par 3 island green, a drivable par 4 with trouble to the right and "catcher's mitt" sandtrap to the left and a par 3 number nine. These three can yield 3 birdies or a bogey or two. The back nine has a similar opportunity for success or failure with a short par 5 number 15 which with a good second shot has you shooting for eagle or a bad second shot gets sucked into the creek and you are fighting for bogey or worse. Number 16 is an uphill par 3 that winds will control alot of your success followed by a downhill par 4 number 17 that I consider the course's signature hole. A tiny green that seems to be drivable but you must carry a pond and a creek so a 5 wood or a mid iron off the tee is best to a landing area between the two water hazards. The final hole number 18 is a dog-legged left par 5 with plenty of yardage and trees. The greatest part about Briar Creek is that its fun to play with great people and well maintained greens. The way golf used to be!!

"Tight and Challenging"
This course is a above average golfers dream. Length and contour is a premium. Tree lined fairways, you'd think you're in the Lincoln Tunnel.You need to play smart to score well. The below average golf will have ample oppurtunities to score well on the par 5's and the par 3's. The par 4's ,lets leave those for the big boys. In all, it is good for everyone, at a reasonable price, on a country club setting on a New England landscape.

"Seasonal member"
NEHGC is on the pleasant island of Mt.Desert in Downeast Maine. I live in Seal Harbor 6 mos. a yr and join the club as a seasonal member. The play is $255 and excludes June 26 thru Sept 6. It is by far the best deal on MDI and throughout the downeast region. The course is never crowded, and you can expect the service in the pro shop to be excellent. Beautifully maintained greens and fairways with the backdrop of surrounding mtns. and countryside make this course a well kept secret on busy MDI. Make a tee time after Sept. 30 to enjoy incredible foliage and ideal temperatures.

Old Memorial Golf Club
"Heaven"
this is the best golf course in the 813. i asked steve smyers one day during a round if the hole we were on was his signature. he looked at me and said, "would you beleive they all are." The 12th hole has a 4 acre waste bunker seperating 2 fairways. The left fairway is narrow with ob on the left but cuts off 100 yards. you'll need it as the hole is over 600 yds long. 18 yds of false front with greens that roll faster than the masters. you'll need to putt in your bathtub to get the speed down. 2 putts are welcomed and 3 putts aren't that bad. most of those members had game. if i had the money no doubt this is where i would spend it. i have to reiterate the greens. they repeatedly double cut and roll the greens and it appears as if someone used starch the way the grass lays flat so true. i've seen them at 13.5 amazing plus you play with a caddie. i was shooting 86 everytime i played westchase from the men's tees. i thought i had game when i shot a 76 at westchase with one mully. it took me four months to break 100 at old m playing every sunday after 2 (for caddies) yes many times i forfeited the chance to watch my buccaneers in order to play this incredible track. if you are ever invited to old m do not pass it up. it may be your only chance for the game of golf the way it was meant. personally running loops for lee roy selmon, wade boggs, tino martinez, scott hamilton and ernie banks to name a few was a very memorable experience. i never asked for any autographs but one of the members the binger took my pic with baseball legend ernie banks and offered me a copy. nascar racer dale jarret signed a pro v 1 for me and wayne hizenga gave his 8 caddies fins hats out of the two helicopters him and marino were traveling in. (he called them coppers) i cADDIED IN A US OPEN SECTIONAL THERE and even got to play in a caddie tourney where the millionares caddied for us. very down to earth people. i shot a 92 that day my first time breaking 100 holing a bunker shot for par on hole 5 ( #1 handicap ) which was the 17 th hole for me in the tourney. every time i turn on the tv i see somebody i met at old m. heaven is on earth.
