Great Staff, Jul 28, 2006

I was really impressed by the way the course was taken care of. Staff was working on the fairways & greens, but got out of the way when you came to the tee box. The staff was what impressed me the most, they were very, very friendly and made you feel you were welcome, not just another customer. I make a trip once a year to this area and you can bet the house I'll play this course again.

the course is very well taken care of, but the course difficulty is lacking. anyone who can hit a ball remotly straight will have no problems with this course.

"Hidden Gem"
One of the best golf values I have seen. #1 hole is the worst hole on the course, with a ridiculous left to right sloping green that is impossible to hold. Make bogey here and you have a chance for a good round. After that, the architect did a good job of squeezing 8 holes into the available terrain. The real ambience of this course starts with #11, a long carry over a wash to a par 3. #10 is a drivable par 4 that could be improved a bit by narrowing the fairway to make it a bit more risky to go for the green. The rest of the back 9 is very well done, except for # 18, which is a pretty lame par 4. And then there is THE RATTLER, a very good par 6. Long hitters can get there in 3, setting up an eagle putt. But the 3rd is mostly carry over water. Overall one of the best courses I have played, especially for the money.

"what about the greens"
What makes river forest a difficult course is their greens.They can put the pin placements where it is possible to three and four putt greens even if you play it everyday.Slopping greens make every putt a challenge. They also have added a water hazard to #3 making it impossible to reach in 2.With the addition of new tee boxes and several holes with where you can knock it OB good luck for all you 10 handicappers to try and break 90 on you first couple rounds.

Refuge, The
"Very Nice Course"
The Refuge is the best kept public coures I have ever played on. It has tight fairways and very fast greens. You will love it.
