This base has three eighteen hole courses, which are exclusively for military personnel and their guests. The East Course gives a player more of a challenge due to its length, while the West Course is more scenic and hillier than its counterpart. The South Course is a links-style design, which was completed in 1998. It features a generous menu of swamps that come into play off the tees and on approach shots. Sand bunkers and elevation changes are present throughout the course. The signature hole on this course is #3, a 170-yard, par 3, featuring a bulk-head sand bunker and water hazard in front of the green. Riding carts are mandatory on this course.

The South Course is a little more challenging than the other 2 ... and you get a bit of a "links" feel. All the Andrews courses are generally well-maintained. #9 is the kind of hole where smart play pays off!

One of the nicest features of all three courses is that there are no homes or unsightly buildings along the fairways. When playing the South Course, you feel like your in your on a private golf course. The scenery is second to none. If your're lucky, you will get a chance to see Air Force One land or take off. Its hangar is located several hundred yards off the golf course so even if you don't see it fly, you'll still get a chance to view it from a distance. Bring plenty of balls becuase water and or enviromental hazards come into play on more than half the holes. The best part of the deal is that the green fee is good for all day. You can play all 54 holes for one green fee. I found their website in a google search at www.aafbgc.com for more information on their fees. Our fee was $35 for all day and the cart was only $20 for two people. You must renew the cart fee for replay but that's it. The greens are medium fast and the pace of play was totally up to us. We played midweek and our slowest round was 3.5 hours. The only drawback is that the public can't make tee times. Just show up at the Virginia gate along Alexander-Ferry Road and show the guard a valid driver's license. That's all it takes to get on the base. You can bring as many people on as you like but they go on a standby list. We had 10 people show up and had very little wait at all.
