Tough little course, Apr 14, 2004
reviewer: RT from NW IL
This little course can confound you. Its short and riddled with sand traps (I believe a counted 75 of them). If you don't have a good sand game and you are unfortunate to hit the traps, you will take big numbers. The course gets a lot of play and as such is not in spectacular shape but on a scale of 1 to 10 about a 7. Hole number 4 is awful. Dubbed the "road hole" by many, it is a short par 4 (only about 280) that many people would be thrilled to get a par. Central Rd. goes up the entire left side while an Army Reserve site blocks the right. I have hit everything from 7 iron to driver off the tee and still have not found the correct combination. The green has an almost non-existant opening guarded on both sides by deep bunkers (surprize). Couple that with the fact that the green is tiny, slopes away from you and has many contures and you're pleased with par. Ah the "Road Hole." The ninth is a challenging par 5 and is probably played best in the 11th fairway (I am sure the course management will not be happy with that comment) because if you play it from the 9th fairway, your approach has to go over water to an elevated, extreemly narrow green, guarded directly in front by 4 traps. You cannot see the green with your approach from this fairway. If you miss the green long, it is a difficult uphill chip. The back nine has a couple of tough holes. Number 13 comes to mind. Unless you can hit your driver very straight, you may wish to hit 3 wood instead. Favor the left side if possible because the right side brings large trees into play for your approach. They are building a new tee on the par 3 17th that brings the pond more into play and should prove more challenging.

Beware This Little Beast!, Apr 13, 2004
reviewer: Dogtrack Master from Elgin, IL USA
This is a tough little short course that plays to a par 68. I used to play it a lot in the summertime with co-workers before work and it is easy to walk. It can lull you to sleep with its short yardage, but beware the bunkers, water, and well-maintained greens. The "Road Hole" #4 is a miserable hole with out bounds on both sides and a tricky green that is well-bunkered. At about 270 yards, I have played about every club in the bag on this hole. I recommend just blasting a driver and hope for the best. A hospital is across the street and you may check yourself into the "looney ward" after playing this hole. The most difficult hole at Arlington Lakes is #9. A Par 5 playing at just 451 yards, players must avoid water hazards on every shot. The approach is over water to a narrow, sloping green protected by four deep-faced bunkers. Hole #15 is a straight away par 4 that is long and has o.b. to the left. Par is a good score. If you don't hit it straight and have a lousy short game, then this course is not for you.
