| This comment will be short and sour. Upon our arrival we were greeted by cart handlers offering transportation for our group of three players and a matron of ceremony. Although we arrived well before our scheduled tee time we were herded to the first tee in order to sqeeze in a player that was late. In my opinion the times were set for players too closely and with no consideration for handicap. My party struggled to keep an obvious pace of the course. It was on the back nine when my party was approched with an idea of closing a two-hole gap to increase the course's revenue instead of my enjoyment. I looked at my son and calmly left from that very hole. If my time is going to be compromised I will be getting paid, not paying for it. The realization that your course has been infested by money makers instead of sportsmen with a love of the game was disappointing and the chance of our return to your establishment is dependent upon the reactions of this response. |

A Real Find!, Apr 10, 2004

| The first thing we found impressive was the service. Carts arrived before we had switched off our engine; Brian checked us in and out with a smile, while the owner Spike Kelly revealed his Irishness with a genuine welcome and tales of a recent visit to the emerald isle. A hot snack was ordered, served and consumed, all within three minutes, a record. Bill, the starter, loves the place so much that he lives on it, in one of the beautiful homes alongside the 10th.
The pace was annoyingly slow when we played, but all the better to enjoy the sunshine and appreciate the configuration and beauty of the course. It really is a fine lay-out, generously wide for the high handicapper, cunningly trapped for the low player and terrific greens which can be either cruel or kind depending on the disposition of the pin-placer. (He might have been having a nervous breakdown the day we played!).
The signature hole (the short 4th)is certainly as good as any par three anywhere, while the elevated greens make the par fours real tests.
We gave this one 3 stars only because it is going through a remodelling and because the recent drought has slowed the healing process. We'll be back in Augusta for the Masters next year to award the remaining two stars that Goshen deserves.
