This undulating, high-plains course is laid out on Aurora's natural topography. It exhibits beautiful greens, perfectly manicured fairways, and Native American artwork throughout the course. This course is very relaxing as well as challenging. The fairways are Blue/Rye and the first five holes are all uphill. There are lakes on the front nine, and wetlands on the back nine. Piney Creek also makes its way through much of the back nine. This course hosted the National Disabled Golfers Association Tournament in July of 1997. "Golf Digest" selected this course 8th on its list of "Best New Affordable Public Courses" for 1998.

The most fun golfing that I have ever had..., Apr 17, 2005

It's been a couple of years since I played this one, so I don't remember a lot of hole-by-hole details, but this course is a blast! There was no such thing as a flat hole, even on the par-3s. This course definitely encourages keeping your shots on the fairway - the rough gets deep and unforgiving very quickly. To put it in perspective, when I played there with my brother-in-law and his best friend, between us, in 18 holes, we lost 37 golf balls. And were smiling the whole time. The course was lush and well-maintained (this was before the drought hit full force. I'm not sure what it is like today.) If the course is open, though, I heartily recommend it.

"3 today 4-5 tomorrow"
18 months ago this course was finally purchased by someone who really wanted to make a statement about the course. They finally finished off the exiting log structure into a beautiful clubhouse/restaurant/bar. With fantastic views of the course, there are few clubhouses that can beat this "19th hole". The course itself did need some work, the greens looked like they had had some issues over the winter. There are plans underway to relocate holes 8 & 9 (which is a good thing, they are probably the most blah holes on the course) and build a 60 room hotel. All-in-all the course is still one of my favorite courses up in GR. Some TLC to the greens and this course is one of the best in northern Minnesota.

"Fun course good value"
I have played Ventura many times over the years and have always found it to be an excellent value and a lot of fun. In this day of $ 100.00 green fees,especially with the exchange,this couse is an excellent value. It is well maintained and challenging enough for any golfer. The staff has always been very courteous and helpful, from the time I arrived and had my clubs loaded onto a cart, until I was done and enjoyed the clubhouse fare. All in all an excellent bang for the buck and an extremely pleasurable experience.

"Some good - some strange"
This course is a mixed bag of good/very good holes mixed with a few holes that are simply strange. This is due to the designers having to work with some restrictions on available space for routing holes. For example, hole #2 is a fine, slightly dog-legged par 4 that requires two good shots to reach. The hole is followed up by a short, tight dogleg par 4 to a blind green. The Par 5 fifth hole is far from classic. Its extremely undulating fairway can reward a good drive with an awkward downhill lie that prevents the golfer from attempting a long approach. The eighth is once again a excellent long straight par 4 to a challenging green. A great hole. This is followed up by a bizarre Par 5 which should ideally be played with a 5 iron from the tee, an 8 iron around a steep hill and a Wedge approach!?! The back nine is almost totally flat and pasture-like with several straightaway, unremarkable par 4's. This leads to the dogleg right 16th that has an approach that is so steep that you can hardly see the top of the flagstick. Hit it and pray!! This course is in excellent condition with tremendous bent grass greens. Give it a try for a unique experience.
