This club, which was originally owned and operated by and for the employees of Bethlehem Steel, features an eighteen hole regulation course and a nine hole regulation course. The Eighteen Hole Course is lengthy and has small greens. The wind is a factor here. The course is the home for the Northern Chapter of the PGA. Tee times are reserved for the weekend only through the months of October and May. The nine hole course is a little more wide open and slightly easier than the eighteen hole course. This Nine Hole Course used to be a part of the original Eighteen Hole Course built back in 1925. The green fees shown are all-day guest fees.

I played this golf course for many years. The layout is challenging, yet (on a really good day) it is possible to bring the course to "its knees." (I had a hole-in-one on Hole Number 2 on August 25, 1979, followed by a birdie on the difficult number 4 hole. My final score was 74. [Excuse my bragging but I am very proud of that accomplishment.] The greens are, for the most part, true for the putt. The holes are cut in properly. The sand compositon is consistent. There are some severe challenges on the course, but with experience you will learn how to master them. I live in Florida now but I often "reminisce and brag" about Sparrows Point Country Club as being one of the finest I ever played. John McCloskey, the golf professional, is a "true" professional and is very attentive. He is also very skilled as a golf teacher. I urge you to try the course. If you like it as much as I always did, I challenge you to resist joining the Club. If you give in to your deepest desires and join SPCC, you will have a lifetime of enjoyment and a place you can proudly "show off" to your friends.

Pines Municipal Golf Course, The
"Tough for it's size"
I'm origianally from Toccoa and have played this golf course many many times. While only a 9 hole course, it is worth the money to play it. It is far less expensive than most golf corses and offers real challenges for even experienced golfers. The terrain is extremely hilly and almost every hole has an extreme change in elavation. The green's are extremely small and very very fast. During the summer the fairways and greens are fairly well manicured although winter play tends to be a little harder on some holes due to a harder fairways from less moisture. Fairways are extemely tight with hundreds of opportunities to lose balls in pine forests and a courseside lake on the last two holes. Overall, not an allstar course but for a quick, challenging, and inexpensive round well worth the time.

Meadow Woods Golf Club
"Meadow Woods"
Meadow Woods is a nice course, althought not the best I have ever played on. The fairways are narrow due to the fact that it is located in a small neighborhood. The Par 4 13th should be pretty much played as a par 5 unless you can hit the long ball really well, or like to loose some balls. The fairways were also pretty dry as was the rest of the course. Fast greens make even the easy puts challenging.

Knob Hill Golf Course
"One of the better ones around"
Nicely maintained, well conditioned course. A little short from the whites, and perhaps a little long from the championship tees for the average golfer. Water comes into play on many holes, as does out of bounds. Greens are medium sized and fairly flat, but several have devilish breaks. Holes seven and eight can make or break your round, and when playing into the wind, the eighteenth is as tough a finishing hole as there is in the area. There has been talk about going private for several years, but it appears as if it will happen sometime in 2004, so if you have the opportunity to play, do it soon!!
