This course has a front nine that plays links-style and the back nine is similar to a North Carolina layout. A challenging hole is #15, a 191-yard, par 3, requiring a tee shot to a green that sits 124 feet below. This hole, centered in a grove of oaks and pines, also has a wonderful view of the prairie bounded by the Colorado River. "Golf Digest" has nominated Cola Vista as the "Best New Private Course of the Year" in 1997.

Augusta quality at a Texas price, May 06, 2004

Texas has trees. Maybe not everywhere but in Bastrop Texas, there are trees. Colo Vista, in many ways, compairs with Augusta. Course layout is challenging and yet par or better is there for the taking. Difficult holes have large size greens making it possible for all golfers to hit greens in regulation. Golf carts are the latest on the market and are replaced each year. The clubhouse overlooks hole #1 with a panaramic view of Texas plains and Colorado River. The Professional on site comes highly qualified to both manage a course of this stature and teach or improve your golf. The staff are first-rate and they serve with a smile. I have never visited a course where people smile as much as these. They will help you with anything and I do mean anything (connected to golf). Ever played where the staff meets you on 18 as you finish, wipes clean your clubs, helps you to your car, load your clubs for you and the last visual you have as you leave this beautiful course is a smile? If you haven't clicked on their home page, I strongly suggest you do so. You haven't played on a course with a clubhouse that looks like this (unless you played at the Masters or in Scotland). There are cottages available next to the 2nd fairway if you wish to stay awhile. There is a 3-tier swimming pool, tennis court and roadrunners. Ever see a roadrunner? Deer are plentiful. Go and have fun...
