I Should Not Tell You About This Course, May 10, 2004

| This unpretentious public fee course in Bastrop, Texas is located approximately 35 miles east of downtown Austin. I was not expecting the quality of design, maintenance and scenic beauty that this course offers. It turned out to be one of the most enjoyable 18 holes of golf I have played.
The course is beautifully maintained. The greens were in very good shape, even after an unusually wet and cloudy springtime in Central Texas. The fairways were in superb shape.
The design contains one unique and interesting problem to solve after another. There was only one hole (#18) that I considered "unfair", a 10-12 degree side-sloped fairway almost the entire length of a par 5.
The area around Bastrop is known as the "Lost Pines." Though Austin is only one-half hour west of this course, Pine Forest displays terrain much different from the usual concept of Texas Hill Country. There are towering pines, red cliffs, hills and gullies that roll down to the banks of the Colorado River that combine to provide a visually pleasing and varied scenic experience. Four holes have the river along narrow fairways. On the hilly part of the course, two par 3 holes start out from elevated tee boxes (overlooking greens some 140-190 yards away) that have 75-100 foot vertical drops down to the green!
Lastly, the staff was eager to please and quite concerned that everything was "just right" during our time there. My stepson's cheeseburger wasn't built quite to his order, but the young woman behind the counter became nearly apoplectic when she discovered the minor mistake.
Like I said, I shouldn't be telling you about this course. For green fees between $25-40 (cart included), this is the best bargain in Central Texas golf I've run across yet. |

| This course is amazing! I just started playing golf a few months ago, and I have to say that this is the best course at the best price within an hour drive. Not only is the course very well taken care of, but the views are absolutely amazing, and the staff is the most courteous of all of the places that I have played. |
