This short and tight course features small greens. Water hazards (lakes) come into play on two holes. The signature hole is #4, a 190-yard, par 3, requiring a tee shot over water to the green. A NICE SLOW STROLL., Jul 28, 2004

This course is ideal for a beginner. The fairways are wide and inviting with some bunkers scattered throughout. Each hole is straight. This is a links style course so alot of the balls stay in play for all you hookers and slicers out there (you know who you are). A few holes are challenging, including #16 par 3 194 yds, and #4 par 3 170 yds which have water hazzards and #14 long par 4 442 yds. The greens and fairways are decent for a municiple course. In the late winter and early spring you have to deal with goose feces all over the fairway. You can count on a round that lasts at least 5 hours.

Desert Hills Golf Club
"What a golf course should be."
I have played this private course 5-6 times since 1992 and have enjoyed it every time. Recently I played as a guest in a small tournament and the course was in excellent condition. There are 8 other courses in this retirement community, several owned and managed by large course management groups, but they are not in the same class as this one as far as quality is concerned. There are few if any divots on the greens, all players seem to be very conscious of divot repair on the entire course, including the rough, facilities are clean and fresh, clubhouse is pleasant and modern and the staff is great. I have just joined and am thrilled to death with a life-time membership to look forward to!

For a 3-Par, greens and fairways are well maintained despite the quantity of play. Surprising number of amenties such as; large putting green, practice sand and chipping areas. Great driving range adjacent to a full restaurant and bar. Friendly with no local attitude.

This course challenges you to hit your ball straight. The back nine should be a national forest. It takes a lot of hard work to post a 70 on this course. If your in Cedar Rapids and want to go golfing at a difficult course it doesn't get harder than this.
