This military course is in good shape. The terrain varies in undulation from one hole to the next, but is basically open. The small greens are somewhat sloped and fast. The course opens at noon on Monday and is only for Department of Defense personnel and their guests.

Not in great shape. Military receives good rates. Not a good value for non-military.

I've been playing Willow Lakes for over 10 years and it is by far the best value in the Omaha area. It's the only Robert Trent Jones Sr. course in Nebraska and offers a fair challenge for golfers of all skill levels. The course did close to the Military for a period of time this year. Willow Lakes DID NOT want this to happen, but apparently there was some "politics" between the military decision to build a new HQ building (tax payers money) and the requirement to move an existing 9 hole course. A few public courses complained that a new 9-hole military course open to the public would make business harder on them. Thus the military closed Willow Lakes to the public for a period of time.

My friends and I frequently played here and when I called to set up a tee time we were informed that civilians are no longer allowed to play unless accompanied by military. Way to segregate Willow Lakes. I would assume that the course is trying to become private but there is not enough people to keep this course private. The majority of busy days have to do with the league that plays on Thursday, other then that the course has been slow.

Course is is great shape as always. I have heard money is an issue for maintenance, so that makes the conditions even more remarkable.

great layout....but too many tourneys...greens up/down, Aug 20, 2009 |

great layout....offers variety of shots and most clubs in the bag. Lot's of risk reward holes with plenty of water hazards. Too many tourneys...make the green unreliable and consistently up/down.

Willow Lakes is a great Robert Trent Jones layout, with five par-5's, five par-3's, and 8 par-4's. The back tees are very challenging tee-to-green, but the course plays MUCH easier from the white tees. From the back tees, you have to score on the par 5's, as there are several par-4's over 400 yards long. Water comes into play on a lot of holes. Very challenging tee-to-green course; plan on hitting every club in your bag. The hazards are very well-placed, especially fairway bunkers. If you are in the military or are retired military, you cannot beat the prices here. On the weekend you can play 18 with a cart and get a bucket of balls all for less than $30!!

This is one of the finest public courses in Omaha. The only thing that holds it back from 5 stars, is the condition of the sand traps. They take quite a bit of getting used to. The course itself is a definite challenge, forcing you to use almost every club in the bag. Ball position on the greens is key, they can be very slick, and punishing if you are above the hole. Most of the par 5's are reachable in 2, depending on the wind. It can get pretty windy in Nebraska, and the wind definitely comes into play. The rough can get fairly tall, and is pretty thick. Water comes into play on 10 holes, and is very well placed. The front 9 plays slightly harder than the back. The back has 3 par 3's, and 3 par 5's. Holes 15 and 16 are back-to-back par 3's and can easily make or break a round. The staff is very friendly, and it is very easy to get out as a single, or to reserve a tee time. If you are in the Omaha area, make it a point to visit Willow Lakes. This is easily one of the top 3 public courses in Omaha, and you can't beat the price!!!!

Best Kept secret in Nebraska, Mar 08, 2004 |

This is a great course, whether you are a single digit handicap or a double digit handicapper. You will find that Willow Lakes will make you hit every shot in your bag and maybe some you don't have yet. With 5 par 5's and some long par 4's you can really go after a Driver. Don't get too excited yet as the approach to the green is where it really gets tricky. When the course is in prime condition, you will want to leave your approach below the hole on just about every green, as they are all pitched from back to front and can be quite slick. The course condition is usually quite nice, well maintained and has a full service clubhouse. This is the only Robert Trent Jones design in the state of Nebraska and it is open to civilians. You should have a great time playing this course as long as you play fairways and greens.
