Bay Club, The - East Course9122 Libertytown RdBerlin, MD 21811 Phone: (410)641-4081Fax: (410)641-9955 This is the only Ocean City, Maryland facility designed, built, owned and operated by PGA golf professionals. The East Course, which opened in 1998, is a championship eighteen hole course that was voted as one of the "Best New Courses" by Golf Digest in 1998-99. Nine holes are tight with tall pine trees while the other nine holes are more open and call for target golf. The signature hole is #8, a 225-yard, par 3, featuring sand bunkers that surround three sides of the green and thus create an island effect, even though this island effect is not created by water. Holes #9 and #18 on both the East and West courses are challenging par 5s. The West Course was cut into the woods, and locals rate the playing conditions as excellent. Golfers can test their skill and courage at hole #14, a 189-yard, par 3, called "Devil's Island, " which is known as the area's original island green. Golfers can also ponder endless choices of attack at the "Green Monster," the spectacular dual green on holes #9 and #18, which measures 100 yards in width and is the only one of its kind on the East Coast.
