Tough Back Nine, Sep 02, 2004

The back nine is quite a bit different than the front. The front nine is mostly the original nine. Designed in the day when flat was good. Hole 8 is a challenging par 5. The back nine gets alot of complaints because it plays a little more difficult and you only need a driver for two holes. Hole 15 is one of my all time favorites for average courses. Its perched high on a hill that overlooks a fairly large pond. You can either lay up with a 5 iron or pull out the driver and try to clear the pond. A creek cuts across in front of the green which is also protected by a large maple tree. A par 4. Tough hole. Its fun to watch the ball sail across the pond.

TimberStone Golf Course
"Worth the trip"
This course is easily the best course I have played. It's on a par with Blackwolf Run and the other Kohler courses at a fraction of the price. This course has a spectacular setting. It winds up and around Iron Mountain, and is a marvel of course design. Despite the elevation changes, only one hole plays uphill. The holes are cut out of the mountain side and winding cart paths take you to the next level, and hole, until you reach numbers 9 and 17, both of which play straight downhill (as does 18, a 600 yard par five with 3 terraced fairways). The grooming is immaculate and each hole is separated from the others by woods or water. Even on a busy day it feels like you're the only golfers on the course. The staff is friendly and efficient and the course is nicely rangered. As you play the course, you will marvel both at the quality of the experience and the incredible engineering required during construction. Rates have been in the $50-60 range for the past several years and its the best golf bargain you can find. This is a course you could play every day and it would remain interesting. The fairways and greens compare with any PGA site. This is one not to miss.

"A fun course"
A local Lakeland course that lives up to it's advertisements! A little long from the middle tees for the average golfer but there is not a bad hole on the course. Lots of water and position golf is more important than the "grip it and rip it " mentality! I'd hope to get to play there again. It's worth the trip.

"Nice Facility"
The course punishes those golfers who are loose off the tee. Fun for all ages, and awards the short but straight hitter. Variety of tees to play from and the course is in good condition year round.

Sharp Park Golf Course
"Great Value ."
Sharp Park is a city owned course. Extremly reasonable rates. Twilight rate in the summer is about $5.00!!! What a value. It's an older course, fairly flat, easily walked, although carts are available. Several years ago the course was redesigned. Several holes were lengthened, a beautiful pond was added. It only comes into play on one hole and only on the mens tees. Due to the reasonable rates, the course has players of all skill levels.
